Despite all the electrical gadgetry commonly found in modern offices, space heating accounts for the largest portion of energy used – about 52 per cent. Gadgetry, or more formally, auxiliary equipment, only accounts for about 14 per cent.

As one would expect, 44 per cent of the energy used in the Commercial and Institutional sector is derived from natural gas. However, electricity, is a close second at 41 per cent.

Conserving energy used for space heating can be as simple as closing doors and turning the thermostat down a degree or two. More sophisticated methods go even further to reduce heating costs and environmental impact.
