Canada - Fueled by Resources
Grades 4 and 5

In this resource (Teacher Guide, 556KB PDF), students are introduced to Canada's petroleum resources. The activities reference conventional resources, oil sands, offshore and frontier sources of petroleum. The resource encourages students to analyze how the use of national resources can affect the environment and draw conclusions about how Canada's geography affects occupations, population distribution and transportation.

Curriculum links, learning outcomes, helpful hints and tips are included throughout the resource for teacher use.

The Canada - Fueled by Resources online activity (Parent Guide, 72KB PDF) is designed for students studying Alberta’s and Canada’s geography and is an extension of the learning resource. The two interactive activities use graphics, sound and animation to encourage students to look closely at the location of Canada's petroleum resources and how they impact Canadians in all parts of the country.
