  • Hydropower is Canada’s number one renewable energy generation source. In 2011, it accounted for 62.9 per cent of Canada’s total electricity generation.

  • Canada is the third largest producer of hydroelectricity in the world. In 2011, Canada generated 372.8 billion kilowatt-hours of hydroelectricity. China, with 687.1 billion kilowatt-hours, is the largest producer of hydroelectricity, and Brazil at 424.3 billion kilowatt-hours is second.

  • Canada has 576 hydroelectricity generating facilities with a total combined installed capacity of 74,172 megawatts.
