Presentation about U.S./Canada relations as it relates to energy by Peter Howard, P. Eng., Research Director, Canadian Energy Research Institute, March 30-31, Boston, Massachusetts and Portland, Maine. 2005 Michael Cleland, President and Chief Executive Officer, Canadian Gas Association, will speak at the Northwest Independent Power Producers Coalition (NIPPC) annual meeting on September 8 at the Hood Canal Alderbrook Resort in Washington. He will talk about Canada’s overall energy supplies, demands and challenges with a focus on provincial or state roles in addressing these challenges. NIPPC is an association that actively pursues informal and formal (i.e., laws, policies, rules and regulations) avenues and forums to ensure a competitive electric power supply marketplace in the Pacific Northwest. Malcolm Wilson, Ph.D., CO2 Management Program Director, EnergyINet, will speak about carbon sequestration at The Energy Council Annual Meeting in New Orleans, Louisiana, September 23. Dr. Wilson played an instrumental role in the evolution of the Weyburn carbon sequestration project and the Petroleum Technology Research Centre. He is also a Canadian representative to the International Energy Agency’s Greenhouse Gas Programme. Francis Bradley, Vice President, Corporate and Communications, Canadian Electricity Association, will speak at the Midwestern Legislative Conference (MLC) of The Council of State Governments on August 1 at the Delta Regina hotel in Saskatchewan. He will talk about Canada’s overall energy supplies, demands and challenges with a focus on provincial or state roles in addressing these challenges. The MLC is an association of 11 Midwestern state legislatures. The provinces of Saskatchewan, Ontario and Manitoba are affiliates of the MLC. 2004 Murray Smith, Alberta’s former Minister of Energy, kicked off the Centre for Energy’s speakers bureau with a presentation at the December 2004 Integrating North American Energy Conference in Washington D.C. sponsored by the Council of the Americas. Participants at this trilateral conference included industry and government representatives from Canada, the United States and Mexico. Smith spoke about energy needs in the Americas, securing efficient and affordable energy for the region and developing unconventional resources such as the oilsands. Back to the speakers bureau
