Introducing Pipelines 101

Pipelines 101 is a website developed by the Canadian Centre for Energy Information for the Canadian Energy Pipelines Association. The website was initiated with the belief that when key stakeholders have convenient access to factual information about industry operations, they can make informed choices about industry activities that affect their communities, and ultimately influence policy decisions.

As the public becomes more involved in the decision-making process related to the development and operation of pipelines, there are greater concerns regarding potential health, social, safety, security and environmental impacts of pipeline construction and operation. The website addresses this growing need for balanced, factual information on Canada’s pipelines and pipeline industry.

Topics covered include the role and necessity of pipelines; type of pipelines; pipeline operators; pipeline safety; stakeholder engagement; pipeline policy and regulatory affairs; and pipeline design, construction and operation. A glossary of pipeline terminology and links to other sources of information about pipelines are also included.
