About emissions

There are different ways to get information about the petroleum industry’s emissions across Canada, including data from:

Criteria Air Contaminants Emissions Inventory

Every five years Environment Canada produces the Criteria Air Contaminants Emissions Inventory with data on emission sources across Canada. These focus on emissions such as sulphur dioxide, nitrogen oxides and volatile organic compounds.

Canada’s Greenhouse Gas Inventory

Published by Environment Canada, the Greenhouse Gas Inventory provides information on emissions from the upstream and downstream segments of the petroleum industry.

National Pollutant Release Inventory

Published by Environment Canada, the National Pollutant Release Inventory is an annual report on the releases of key emissions to air, water and land from large industrial and commercial sources.

Voluntary Challenge and Registry

The Voluntary Challenge and Registry is a private-public partnership that promotes voluntary efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. The VCR provides public reports on the commitments and progress of companies in different industries, including the petroleum industry.
