Oil and natural gas environment

Introduction

This section focuses on the environmental impacts of producing and using crude oil and natural gas, and highlights key actions being taken by industry and government to reduce those impacts.

The three main sections of the petroleum industry are discussed separately. These are the upstream oil and gas industry, the transmission pipeline industry and the downstream petroleum industry, which includes refining, distribution and marketing of natural gas and petroleum products.

The end use of the industry’s products is also discussed briefly.
